R.S.E Policy

 Aims

To foster and support the personal, moral and social development of each child consistent with Catholic teaching and the ethos of the school.

  • To help each child to develop healthy friendships and relationships based on mutual respect, dignity and responsibility.
  • To foster an understanding of, and to enable the child to be comfortable with, her own, and others, sexuality, while growing and developing.
  • To assist parents/guardians in educating their children in relationships and sexuality, recognising that they have the prime responsibility in this respect.

Objectives

Our programme should enable each child to:

  •  Develop a sense of self-awareness, self-esteem and self-worth
  • Understand and feel comfortable in the relationships they have at home, at school, with peers and in the wider community.
  • Develop the ability to communicate and express their feelings appropriately.
  • Have opportunities where they can share their concerns and where they can expect to be listened to sensitively in a supportive environment.
  • Develop an understanding of themselves, their own bodies and their feelings as they grow and change.
  • Develop a positive sense of awe and wonder, respect and delight in her own particular stage of growth and change.
  • Understand the process of procreation appropriate to her stage of development.
  • Come to value family life, develop and awareness of differing family patterns and appreciate the responsibilities of parenthood.
  • Recognise the importance of choices they make, the external influences of those choices and to accept responsibility for the decisions they take.
