Poetry Competition

Last week we had a poetry competition and we had three winners in our class. We hope you enjoy reading some of our poems.

Poetry is…

By Zara Bolger

Poetry is unthinkable, unimaginable.
Poetry is random words thrown into a sentence.

Poetry is a rainbow coloured man dancing on the moon.
Poetry is a granny having a firm conversation with the wall.

Poetry is a muffin throwing up letters and numbers.
Poetry is what poetry is.

It could be a banana asleep.
A happy meal that isn’t happy!

Poetry is whatever you want it to be.
Poetry is poetry!

Fairy Caravan
By Fiona Brennan

As I lay sleeping,
One Summer afternoon.
I woke to the sound of tinkling bells
And the piping of a tune.

I saw a fairy caravan
Come trooping through the grass.
I held my breath and kept quite still
To watch the fairies pass.

Something Smart
By Shannon Payne Bourke

Today, at school, I learned something-
Something very smart.

The teacher said it after lunch,
But before art.

It was such a big word,
Just like December.

I wish I had a good memory,
…….because I just can’t remember!
