We did an online survey on reading in school this year. Here are some of the things we found out:
- 97% of girls in the school took part in the survey
- 90% enjoy reading
- 61% use the local library
- 91% think there are good books in the school library and
- 91% learn a lot from reading
We were asked what we enjoy most about reading and here are some of the comments:
“I like getting lost in a book.”
“I enjoy reading lots of books on a weekend and I like to get the pictures in my head. I love to read at home, at school, at my nana’s house and I love to read in bed as it helps me to sleep at night.”
“What I like most about reading is when you are enjoying a book you go into another world and the real world around you has just froze.”
“I enjoy getting stuck in a good book.”
“I mostly like books without pictures because it’s better to imagine your own story…so I love it.”
“I enjoy learning new things and I like when I feel as if I am there!”
“I like reading because it is like a TV but in your head.”
“Sometimes I feel like I am in the book.”
“When there is a problem and you can’t wait to get to the end of the book!”
“Sometimes you learn new things and interesting facts.”
“The fact that you can learn from it and get better and better at it.”
“I like learning a lot about the olden days.”
“It takes me to different places where I can meet new people and (when the writer is very good) go into their situations and feel their feelings.”
