This year commemorates the Bicentenary of St John Bosco’s birth.
We at Salesian Primary School celebrated his feastday on the 31st January with a special mass in the Holy Rosary Church, celebrated by Fr .Tom Ryan.
We were joined at the mass by the 1st classes from Salesian Infant School. It was Catholic Schools Week and the theme of our mass was ‘Called to Serve’.
In preparation for this feast the children explored the theme of ‘Friendship’, we looked at how Don Bosco was a good friend when he was growing up. Later, as a priest Don Bosco wanted young people to be good friends to each other and to grow up as good citizens ready to serve those around them. The children all participated in the singing and readings of the various parts of the mass. It was indeed a very joyful celebration.
As part of the Bicentenenary celebations , there are four activity pacts for schools,( prepared by Srs Mary Mc Inerney ,Mary Brigid and Fr Lukasz) with stories from Don Bosco’s life, as well as activity sheets. The children have already completed two of these. We have a Don Bosco, where you will find poems, stories and art work by all the classes.
